Extracurricular Math Program

Through our partnership with Explorations in Math (a local nonprofit), Northgate is able to offer a number of exciting additional math activities to enrich student learning.  We conduct once a week after school math clubs for primary and intermediate students.  This year the clubs focused on Number Sense, Data and Probability and Problem Solving.  At each club meeting, students have fun learning new skills and playing math games that reinforce the concepts.  We also maintain a monthly Math Challenge board which allows all interested students to test their math skills in a variety of areas.  Twice a year, we host Family Math nights where parents and children together to learn new math games and receive materials for playing math games at home.  Through all these offerings, we have created a math culture that recognizes that not only is mathematics essential for success in adult life, but it is also exciting and fun too.

 HeadStart Program

Northgate's Head Start, is a program for 3-5 year old eligible children.  If you have or know of families interested in a preschool experience that prepares children for Kindergarten please visit and apply.  We are taking applications for Fall 2012.  Most of the Head Start students feed into Northgate Elementary and have that added experience of knowing the school that they will attend Kindergarten. Our program is geared towards pre-Kindergarten readiness and every child has access to periodic health and dental assessments as well as mental health services.
We service Kids ages 3-5 with 2 half day on-site sessions from 8-11:30am or 1:00-4:30pm Monday thru Thursday, both sessions provides transportation within the service area.

Our morning session includes breakfast and lunch & the afternoon session includes lunch and an afternoon snack.www.seattleschools.org/area/headstart/index.dxml

 School Psychologist

Northgate has the services of a school psychologist, who works with parents ,teachers and children to help analyze why a student is having learning difficulties. Those difficulties could include learning disabilities; behavior, health or cognitive issues.

The school psychologist also helps with the development of recommendations for a child’s individual education plan and assists others in finding their way through special education legal requirements and the paperwork associated with those laws.
